Manchester Monument

Another weekend is here! I got here a picture of somewhat like a religious monument. I took this picture during a visit with a dear friend Dae Loloy in Manchester last Nov. 2008. I can't exactly remember where I took this one. I bought a book about Manchester but it was left in Birmingham. Just sharing this picture for now. Have a great and blessed weekend to all.

This is the Danube River that runs along Kloster Weltemburg, a baroque Monastery near Kelheim in Bavaria, Germany. This monastery was founded around 600 A.D. and claimed to be the oldest one in Bavaria. Me and dear HB already visited this place twice already. The last time was last September 2009. We had a cruise in Danube River from Kelheim to this monastery. You can also find the famous Asamkirche or Asam Church in this monastery. Feel free to browse my other sites for more photos of this place.

WW: The Gößweinstein or Goessweinstein Basilica

We happened to pass-by Gößweinstein today during our trip tpo Bayreuth. It is a municipality in the district of Forchheim in Bavaria in Germany. The place is very interesting. It is just small town but a lot of tourists visit this place because of the Pilgrimage Church which is now considered to be a Basilica or Cathedral. It has also a very beautiful surrounding. Gößweinstein is written in English as Goessweinstein. I am sharing a photo of the altar of this Cathedral. Below is also a little information about this Pilgrimage Church.

Feel free to click the picture to enlarge this very beautiful Church.
Pilgrimage church of the Holy Trinity, 1730–1739 built during the reign of Fürstbischof Friedrich Carl von Schönborn according to plans by Balthasar Neumann, who also supervised the construction. Franciscan padre Prof. Dr. Luchesius Spätling applied for the denomination as Basilica minor. The church was elevated to the papal Basilica minor in 1948 by Pope Pius XII.

St. Peter's Cathedral in Regensburg, Germany

St. Peter's Cathedral is considered to be one of the landmark of Regensburg, Germany. We had a visit there today and it was a great one. I was amazed by the architecture of this very old and historical Church..please read below for more some information about it.

The Regensburg Cathedral is the bishop's church and the principal church of the Regensburg diocese. It is also the home of the Regensburger Domspatzen ("cathedral sparrows"), a choir rich in tradition. The structure is considered the most significant Gothic work in southern Germany.

The Cathedral is also the burial place of important bishops, including Johann Michael von Sailer (1829-1832, memorial built by Konrad Eberhard in the south chancel), Georg Michael Wittmann (1832-1833, memorial also by Konrad Eberhard in the north chancel), and Archbishop Michael Buchberger (1927-1961, likewise in the north chancel). In the western part of the central nave stands a bronze memorial for the Prince-Bishop Cardinal Philipp Wilhelm (d. 1598), the brother of Duke Maximilian I of Bavaria.
